Spring's Most Desirable Bags

With the change of seasons, it is a good time to ring in a change of fashion habits too. If your handbag tends to be a graveyard of rubbish featuring old chewing gum wrappers and broken mascara wands, as well as being cracked to the handles with hardware that is falling off–you might need a new piece of arm candy to carry away! Here's our guide to the most desirable bags styles that are in for this season, and will see you through the warmer weather offspring and summer.

The backpack

Whether your reference point is Cher from Clueless or you fancy a bit of cool urban style, the backpack is the most fashionable bag for this year. You can find it in every material from the most luxurious leather (Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen sell backpacks that retail for upwards of $20,000) to your easy and simple game denim versions that you can pick up from the local high street. If you're not sick of the 90s revival by now, then we suggest a clear plastic backpack to see you through weekends festivals and days by the beach.

The satchel

The satchel is still going strong as a favourite day bag for women everywhere. We recommend versions by the Cambridge Satchel Company and Topshop for colourful and practical options for a variety of price to points. This is perfect for either work or school as it can hold everything from a laptop to a packed lunch to a make-up bag.

The clutch

The clutch is still the bag of choice when heading out for a night on the town, or when going to a formal event such as a wedding or a graduation. Our favourite has to be the classic lips clutch by Lulu Guinness–a bold red lips shaped clutch that goes with absolutely any outfit. Other plastic clutches are available from French Connection, and our favourites are the ones with crystal details on.

The bucket bag

This is the most fashion forward shape for bags in the coming year. The trend has been headed up by Louis Vuitton, who created a range of glossy bucket bags that fits in neatly between the twin trend categories of minimalism and luxurious fabrics and finishing. You can find a version on the high street from somewhere like Zara. This is the bag that we will be rushing out to buy, so be quick if you want to jump on this trend. Matching it with a fancy watch from a place like Watches of Switzerland could be a good way to exaggerate the trend.

If you have found “the one"–and by that we mean, the perfect bag for all occasions, then please let us know in the comments. We hope you enjoy shopping in the coming year and we wish you luck in finding the perfect bag to meet your practical needs and express your very personal sense of style. Check out new collections by high-street retailers And Other Stories and Urban Outfitters to see more of the latest trends in all things uncanny arm candy.

I do love a bucket bag, probably because I carry around so much stuff with me.
