Getting Shirty The Perfect Shirts and Blouses for Autumn Winter 2013

The shirt everyone has been talking about this season is the Burberry heart print, which has been worn by one of the world’s most famous fashionista’s, Victoria Beckham. Its counterpart, the men’s shirt version, has been seen on One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles. But, while the Burberry heart print is undeniably stylish, it’s just one of a number of stunning key trends for this season.
Katie from the delightso.me blog shares her 5 favourite shirts and blouses for autumn and winter.

Tartan shirt
I remember wearing a tartan lumberjack shirt as a teenager, but this straight cut Akaiwa tartan shirt is an altogether more stylish affair. With deep green and pink checks, it would look perfect worn simply with skinny jeans or with leather leggings and a pair of studded ankle boots. Or you could style it as Miranda Kerr has been wearing her tartan and wear with a pair of black leather shorts, sheer tights and heeled boots.
The shirt dress
Off-duty A-listers have been seen in the perfect thrown-on piece, the shirt dress, recently, with Taylor Swift seen out and about in New York wearing a white shirt dress and a burgundy bowler hat while Elizabeth Olsen also opted for a white shirt dress for a television appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show. It’s a difficult look to pull off though, and can appear shapeless if you don’t get it exactly right. Choose wisely and you could wear it to dinner with a pair of heels or with a pair of ballet flats for the school run.
Animal print
Animal print never goes out of fashion. I have a fail-safe snake-print blouse which has been in my wardrobe for 20 years now, but which I still bring out season after season. Jason Wu’s pussy bow blouse is a modern take on those worn by Christina Hendricks in Mad Men. For work, it would be perfect teamed with a flip-hem pencil skirt, or you could add a touch of glamour to a pair of skinny jeans with this blouse, a blazer, and a pair of loafers.
Masculine femininity
The tomboy look was a key trend on the autumn winter catwalks, with oversized overcoats and brogues. Ralph Lauren teamed mannish trousers and waistcoats with feminine pussy bow blouses. I love the designer’s classic striped shirts, which look like men’s work shirts, but feature a pussy bow and fitted styling to give them a more feminine feel. They’re ideal for office wear, with wide-legged trousers or pencil skirts and courts. Or, you could tuck a pussy bow blouse into a skater skirt and team with a pair of brogues.
Going dotty
Polka dots were all over the catwalk for this autumn, featuring on everything from the sheer panels of cut out dresses to t-shirts. Saint Laurent’s runway show included sheer polka dot blouses, which look beautiful with a pair of straight cut 7/8 length black trousers, simple black stilettos and a clutch bag in a contrasting hue for the perfect look for drinks with the girls or dinner with your other half.
Choose the right blouse and you’ll still be wearing it for seasons to come. It will become one of the hardest working items in your wardrobe.

The animal print is great - I'd wear that with leather leggings and killer heels. Xx
