Happy Birthday Scarlett Johansson: we celebrate your curves!

Luscious blonde Scarlett Johansson turns 27 on 22 November 2012. The petite but curvy Hollywood star is not only a renowned actress (Woody Allen told Vogue in 2007: “Directing her consists of handing her the script, making sure she has enough junk to snack on, getting out of her way, and letting her make me look like a hero”), but she has also been a stalwart of many a ‘top sexiest women’ list since her arrival on the silver screen.
Undoubtedly, her reputation as a sexy starlet is going to be helped by those plump lips and flowing locks. But what do we think Scarlett’s sexiest feature is? Her beautifully curvy, hourglass figure. (Appearances as characters such as The Avengers’ Black Widow in that skin-tight catsuit can’t hurt either…).
To celebrate her birthday, and her fantastic figure, we’re taking a look at our favourite quotes from Scarlett and other famous curvy advocates championing beauty in all shapes and sizes. To all women, we say: “Embrace Your Curves!”
Scarlett Johansson:
“I’m curvy. I’m never going to be 5’11 and 120 pounds. But I feel lucky to have what I’ve got.”
Described as “curvy and cool” on the cover of Vogue’s 2007 edition of the famous Shape issue, Scarlett was the fifth woman to be the magazine’s face of celebrating beauty in all forms. The series started in 2002 and has featured some of the most glamorous women in fashion, including a pregnant Brooke Shields, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Gisele Bündchen just a few months after giving birth to her first child.
Kate Winslet:
“I’d much rather be known as some curvy Kate than as some skinny stick...”
A particularly outspoken advocate of women’s curves, Titanic star Kate Winslet has never been ashamed to say what she thinks about the media’s adulation of skinny models. One of Hollywood’s most successful British exports, Kate has admitted that when she was younger, remarks about her weight did bother her. Now she’s learnt to be happy in her gorgeous body, and is proud of her shape – not to mention “sincerely grateful” for her buttocks!
Robyn Lawley:
“I hope I’m helping women to embrace their own bodies… to understand they don’t have to be small to succeed.”
Plus-size model Robyn Lawley, born in Australia in 1989, has quickly become the face of the empowerment of curvy women. She has featured on the cover of Vogue Italia, was the first plus-size model to be shot for Australian Vogue and was also the first plus-size model to appear in a campaign for Ralph Lauren. A champion for the beauty of curves, Robyn is currently the face of lingerie company Boux Avenue’s ‘Embrace Your Curves’ campaign, a company which actively champions ‘real women’. The range features beautifully crafted bras, knickers and matching sets, perfect for making the most of your gorgeous shape.
Beyonce (on her UK number two single, ‘Bootylicious’):
“… It’s a celebration of curves and a celebration of women’s bodies.”
Beyonce has one of the most enviable bodies in pop, there’s no denying it. Forever championing the beauty of women’s curves, whatever their shape, she makes no secret of how hard she works to maintain her shape. She appears keen to pass on her ways of seeing things onto her daughter too, as she hopes to teach Ivy Blue not to focus on aesthetics. An advocate of curves, inner beauty and a fitness fanatic? We salute you, Lady B.
Christina Hendricks:
“Sexiness is about confidence and about being an individual.”
Star of the hit TV series, Mad Men, Christina Hendricks (and her character Joan Holloway) have played an important role in bringing back the glamour to curvy figures. Her advice for those with curves struggling to find a style that suits them? Choose a fit that highlights your favourite things about your body, and don’t be afraid to make the most of what you’ve got. Why downplay your curves when you can find a design that glorifies them, and helps you look your most fabulous self?

I love this post!! Perfect message to a world so obsessed with image (especially skinny image)
Embrace your beautiful curves! Scarlett is probably one of my favorite actresses, right there next to Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep!!
