Age proofing your skin
Your skin is the largest organ of your body and it is very visible. As a Model you'll want to keep it in tip top condition. The humble tomato is on your side in the battle to fight skin aging. Everyday your skin faces exposure to pollution and the sun’s harmful rays resulting in inevitable wrinkles, deep furrows and pigment spots. You only need to look at someone who spends a lot of time outdoors to see the effects of sunlight on skin. Scientists have discovered that lypocene, from cooked tomatoes, works in the same way as sunscreen protecting the skin and slowing down the aging process.......one more excuse to reach for the tomato ketchup bottle!

Water: How Much Is Enough?
There are so many mixed messages about how much water we should or shouldn't drink. As a Model it's an important question, as clear skin and a vibrant complexion is often contributed to water intake. In reality the idea that we must drink 2 litres of water every day is a myth. Most people simply don't need this much water to avoid dehydration. We have a constant intake of water with the fruit, vegetables, teas and coffees that we consume throughout the day. These all contribute to our hydration levels, though alcohol is an exception to the rule as it leads to dehydration. Luxe Models in London recently advised all its potential models that they should abstain from alcohol for at least one full month a year following guidelines set out by the government in January. The feedback from their models showed a double benefit: aside from the slimming attributes of no alcohol, most models also noticed that they suffered fewer spots. Bonus!

Alcohol also can lead to added unwanted bulk around the midriff....not what a model wants! This can be explained by the fact alcohol contains 7 calories per gram. This is shocking when you consider that fat contains 9 calories per gram. Protein and carbohydrates contain a more modest 4 calories per gram.

  • One large glass (250ml) red wine = 214 calories= one bag Cheesy Wotsits
  • One bottle red wine= McDonalds Cheeseburger and medium fries

One key to staving off hunger pangs for longer is protein. Protein rich foods tend to be far more satiating than fatty or carbohydrate-rich foods. So every time you eat make sure you have a little protein as well and you will feel full for longer; whether this is a handful of seeds or nuts or a little humus with an oat cake.
