The winter chill as hit, and ahead the forecast is for days of snow, ice and biting winds. Aside from the magic of Christmas this season can feel a little gloomy, and venturing outside is akin to arctic expedition, especially with that wind! Wrapping up warm becomes a mammoth task as layer after layer is donned, throwing fashion out the window in favour of the cosiest jeans and oversized jumper combo, matched with a scarf, hat and gloves. You don't need to bundle up like a snowman to keep warm this season however, and there are many ways you can stay stylish and girly without feeling the cold.

Knitwear
Knitwear is very much in vogue this year once again, and there really are no rules when it comes to layering. Wear as much or as little as you like, and mix colours, prints, texture and thickness to create a stunning outfit. To make knitwear pretty and feminine you can pair it with lighter, floaty and frilly fabrics, which look fantastic when contrasted with a thick chunky cardy or jumper. A light skirt works well for this, allowing you to wear thick tights and long sleeved layers to stay warm whilst looking very elegant.

Dresses
Don't hang up your dresses just yet. Summer may be over, and tea dresses might not be quite appropriate, but there are still plenty of dresses that are great for winter. You can find many knitted dresses as well as heavier fabric girly numbers that are great for this time of year and all can easily be teamed with a pair of snuggly boots to avoid cold toes. Have a look at some of the casual dresses from George for some low cost winter chic. Wear your dress with a cardigan or nice toasty jacket as well as a hat and gloves for a cute girly look that says evenings by the fire and afternoons Christmas shopping.

Leg Candy
Don't forget to add a little pizazz to your pins this winter. Black tights and leggings might be old faithful, but you can mix things up a little with some printed or textured leg wear. Knitted leggings or an argyle print pair of tights can really bring an otherwise plain outfit to life, and are very much on trend this season. There are many bold coloured tights available so you can easily contrast or compliment the rest of your outfit. If you're feeling daring maybe add a touch of sparkle with some glittery legwear? Or, if you're concerned about the cold you can always wear a few pairs of tights - no one will know and you'll be twice as warm when out and about.

Don't let the cold get you down. Put down the old ageing jumpers and ill-fitting layers and instead reach for some wonderful fashion items. Feel fabulous and feminine this winter in an outfit that is as stylish as it is practical. Don't forget to add a dash of bling either, it is Christmas after all.
