Spring Clean your Life:Tips for an Organised Wardrobe

Spring is (almost) in the air and while some of you may have already been on a decluttering mission following the festive season, others may be holding out a little longer before they tackle the growing amount of clutter and disorganisation that their home may be filling with. If you are getting itchy feet and want to start spring cleaning your home, it's advisable to make a list of what you want to achieve and a rough timescale in which you wish to achieve it. Sorting cupboards, drawers and shelves can take a while and it's certainly not something that you can do in one day. When it comes to organising your wardrobe, take a step back and analyse the problem areas - do you have too many clothes for the space you have? Do you have drawers full of clothing that you haven't worn for years or do you just need to make a few extra compartments so that you can organise your clothing accordingly?

Ask yourself the above questions and make a start organising your wardrobe. You'll feel much better once it's done, and it will also help you to know what key clothing items you could do with investing in. For example, there may be a couple of party dresses in there that you haven't worn for ages and will probably never wear again because they don't fit; instead of keeping them 'just in case', sell them on and treat yourself to some new George evening dresses that will keep you going for months, or years, to come.

If you are hoping to organise your wardrobe so that you can maximise the space you have, here's a few great tips for you to get started.
  • You will have to make a mess first if you want it to be truly organised. Pull everything out of your wardrobe - yes, everything - so that you are able to see exactly what you own, what you need and what you don't.
  • If you tend to hold onto your clothes regardless of whether you have worn them recently, ask a friend to provide their honest opinion about things. This can really help the hoarders to let go of things that they don't do them any justice.
  • If you haven't worn something in over a year, or it is bobbly, well worn and threadbare, get rid of it. Be ruthless. If you have items that are rarely worn but you're reluctant to let go of, such as party frocks and evening gowns, pop them in a vac pack and store them away until you need them.
  • Separate your clothes so that your rail is organised. Whether it's categorised into occasions, colours or garment types is completely up to you.
  • Take seasonal clothes out of the wardrobe until you need them again. Under-bed storage is ideal for this, or use the trusty vac packs again. For example, during the summer, you won't need your super thick winter coat and chunky knits that will just take up valuable wardrobe space.

It's up to you what you do with the clothes that you decide to say goodbye to. You could make a little money back, by selling them online, or you could donate them to charity for for someone else to use. Either way, if they're not in your wardrobe, you'll be more organised and will never have to worry about not being able to find anything to wear, ever again!
